Is It Worth Switching From Traditional Cigarettes To E-Cigarettes
An electronic cigarette is a device that vaporizes a liquid made up of water, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin and nicotine. The process used is similar to the technology engineered into humidifiers that sprays vaporized water into the air. The electronic cigarette--known as an ecigarette--uses a device called an atomizer to heat and vaporize the liquid into a thick, white cloud, much like the smoke generated from a traditional cigarette. The white vapor is a lot cleaner and it contains none of the deadly carcinogens found in regular tobacco cigarettes. The smokers also enjoy the vapor provided which gives them the same feeling that smoke from a cigarette does.
E-cigarette atomizers are the heart of all electronic cigarettes. They are located within two other components. These are the battery and the cartridge. The battery is pretty much a long device that mimics the barrel of a cigarette, that is why many manufacturers make them look like actual cigarettes. Electronic cigarette starter kits contain a battery charger that is used to recharge the battery. The end of the battery contains an LED behind a colored lens that illuminates when the user takes a drag. The cartridge holds the juice that is vaporized to create the white vapor. E-juice usually contains nicotine, although some manufacturers eliminate the nicotine for users who want to quit nicotine, yet still enjoy the smoking experience. You can even find different levels of nicotine cartridges. The different levels of nicotine are often used to completely get off of the habit of smoking.
Cartridges are manufactured in different style for holding the e-juice. One of the first styles used a cotton pad-like filter that was inserted into the cartridge and the juice would then drip into the pad. However, this style requires that the cartridge keeps getting refilled in order to keep the smoking experience active. The newer cartridges have a vial in the cartridge that holds a small cache of liquid. The liquid is then discharged in small portions meaning that there is less refilling involved.
Common problems with e-cigarettes that manufacturers are addressing are clogged atomizers, frequent cartridge replacements, routine recharging and failed batteries. Atomizers can become clogged when the juice has thickened. This causes there to be a restricted air flow and the production of fewer vapors. If this was to happen then the atomizer would need to be cleaned or replaced. Cartridge filters wear out over time, due to constantly holding and releasing juice. Batteries will also wear out over time and will need to be replaced.
These devices have not been approved by the FDA yet, meaning that manufacturers cannot advertise them as a viable way to stop smoking. Do you think they are the correct alternative to smoking? A large and growing community of e-cigarette users will answer this question with an affirmative, “Yes!” If you enjoy smoking and would like to find an alternative to traditional tobacco, electronic cigarettes are definitely worth consideration.
Filter question?
How important are those white Bio-Fiber pads that come with some of those hangin' filters. Mine is pretty dirty and I can't get it any cleaner. I have also looked at stores but haven't seen any replacements without buying a whole new filter.
Ok so one guy says change them regularly and the other two say don't even clean them. Can somebody clarify that for good please?
I believe the first to guy because I know bacteria is good for the tank. I had that tank for over a year and even took the pads out for a while because they were so nasty. Now I feel like an idiot.

You generally don't want to wash these. In this case, a little slime is a good thing. It's a place to grow beneficial bacteria. The moment you wash it, you destroy bacterial growth and the bacterial filtration it was providing. The only reason you might ever want to wash it is if there is excessive algae growth on it blocking the flow of water through your filter. If this is going on, then you also need to do more frequent water changes to clean the tank.
If you do wash them, they might wear out. Discoloration is fine but if it's actually starting to fall apart they you might want to replace it. You can choose any of the "bacterial sponge filters" that you find in stores that will fit your size filter. Chances are the same size will fit yours. Quite a lot of brands are interchangeable.
By far the best thing though is to just leave it in place and not touch it.
Add: Unless it is made with addition to reduce ammonia, it's not going to reduce ammonia to replace it. The box is probably just trying to get you to spend money.
