Seen Through The Eyes Of A Father
The day that he has been secretly dreading is finally here. Though it feels as if someone has drilled a hole in his heart, he keeps up the pretense of being overjoyed for her sake. Today, another man is taking her away from him forever, and he does not want anything to spoil her big day.
He wonders how it can be that time can pass so quickly. Where did it go? It seems as if it were only yesterday that he was getting up in the middle of the night to soothe her, as she battled through yet another colic attack. He'd pick her up out of her crib and walk with her tiny body pressed against his chest for hours before it would ease up sometimes. When it had finally passed, he'd lay her back down in the crib, and marvel at the innocence of her sleeping face. The sun was often already up by the time he crawled back under his king quilt and went to sleep.
Before he realized it, she had graduated from diapers and bottles, to climbing around on the monkey bars at the playground. In those days, she was growing so fast that he was hard-pressed to keep up. All of his spare time seemed to be devoted to hunting through children's clothing stores, looking for girls shirts and shorts that she wouldn't grow out of after wearing only a handful of times.
Her teenage years were his biggest challenge yet. Her body went through changes he often could not adequately explain to her. How could he, a father, explain the mysteries of a woman's biology that he had never experienced himself? He tried his best though, and they muddled through it somehow.
Then she started college, and almost overnight, turned into the very image of her mother when he'd first met her. The resemblance sometimes made his heart ache as the too few memories came flooding back. Had they really only had a few brief years together, before she left his life forever?
The bombshell that he knew he would one day face dropped sooner than expected. She had gotten him to come with her to the local department store's jewelery section on the pretense of needing a new watch. But as she drew his attention to the selection of mens wedding bands, it was the look in her eye that told him why they were really there. It felt as if his heart were dropping through the floor. But he put on a huge smile and took her in his arms anyway. Robert was certainly a fine young man.
As her big day draws to a close, he watches as they head off on their new life together. Despite the sadness, he feels a father's pride. He's never seen her looking more radiant. Surely, she must be the most beautiful bride that there ever was.
Names that have meaning?
I am really interested in names and their meanings. Are there any (preferably more unusual) names that have really nice meanings.
For example: Orlaith means golden queen
Amadore means gift of love
Aoife means beautiful, radiant
Ryan means little king
I'm quite interested in names that I've not heard of before, so names from other languages, cultures etc would be interesting to hear. However, I'm asking for names with meanings behind them, so I don't mind if you have any popular names as suggestions.
