A Safe Play Environment For Out Door Toys
When choosing play equipment for your children to use in the garden at home one of your main concerns should be safety and how to prevent accidents from happening that could result in injury to your child. Some play equipment such as a cubby house that wont really need any thought to how safe they are as they tend to be positioned on the ground and dont have many moving parts so the risks are very minimal. But for the most part the following advice can be applied to all types of outdoor play equipment to you are considering to buy for you kids at home.
When considering a wooden play structure for the home such as climbing frames or swing sets you will need to ensure that the item has a guarantee of 10 years as a minimum and that is covers insect infection and rot. Pressure treated timber is also highly recommended as it will help to prevent fungal infection, a non-toxic chromium / cadmium / arsenic solution will be safe for your kids and wont kill them.. Timber climbing frames can present a number of small risks to children, robust timber with rounded edges will provide a much safer playing environment, and fixings can also harm kids, nuts and bolts that are recessed in to the timber are much safer.
Inspecting the apparatus frequently will help you to spot and repair any issues before they develop further to become risks . Selecting the right position is also important, swings should have a clearance of between 2 and 2.5 meters both to the front and back. For climbing frames and trampolines a clear perimeter is also very important and a minimum clearance of 1.5 meters is recommended to prevent children climbing of fences, roofs or in trees. Ground rules are also very important and you should make it clear to your kids that if they break the rules they will loose access to the toy, this way you can be proactive about safety.
My wardrobe door has come off, pulling out the screws. How do I put it back on?
My wardrobe door received a "knock" and the door and hinges came off pulling the screws out. Is there anything I can use to fill up the enlarged holes that can be screwed through again?
If you fill up the holes with match stick or toothpick, it's best to put some glue in the holes first. Leave it to dry properly and then trim the pieces to the surface. If you want to make a better job, move the hing either up or down. It will be good as new, well done Ginger, good suggestion.
