How to log into website with FTP host information?

July 15, 2010 - 1:28 pm 3 Comments

Our web guy gave me the FTP host information, host directory and the login and password. When I put the FTP host information in the address bar, it just takes me to our website. How do I log-in?

If you have a server panel (like Cpanel) you can log in through your server panel . .

For example: http://mysite/cpanel

Then enter your user name and pwd.

If not, then you will need an FTP client. Google "free ftp client" and you will find a few good free ones.

You will need to open the FTP client and set up your website account with your site url, user, and password and then connect. Then, you will see all the files on your server account.

What are free web hosting services, like Tripod where you have no ads, like google pages but you can use FTP?

You can use Front page or FTP Client to publish pages to a server, I don’t like google pages, yet i want FTP compatibility like tripod but no ads

There are many web hosting providers and you might become confused to choose which one. It is very important that you choose a good web host. Good doesn’t mean expensive. Good means reliable with great support.

Some people try to save money and choose to go with a free web host. They usually realize pretty quickly what a huge mistake that is. I’m all for free whenever possible, but free web hosting will end up costing much more than you save.

But, let’s face it – how do you know if a web host is good or not? They all look pretty much the same and they seem like they know what they are doing, right? Well, I recommend reading reviews so that you may compare and become more familiar with the hosting companies before making a decision.

When you choose a web host, make sure they have excellent support. If you have a problem with your web site you want help now, not in a day or two.

Using an ftp client with godaddy hosting?

July 14, 2010 - 7:20 am 2 Comments

As far as I know, I’m doing it correctly. You use your godaddy account username/password, a long with the address of your domain name, and the port 21. But it won’t let me connect. I’m using filezilla.

Can anyone help me?

Double check with GoDaddy because I believe they require use of ftp:// which uses the FTP address to your domain name. I use FileZilla, too, but my host allows use of the domain name for FTP access.

Might check and see if you need to use Passive or Active mode with their server.

Well, just checked. GoDaddy allows Domain Name:

What is the best free web hosting service that offers FTP so I can add my blog to it from Blogger?

July 14, 2010 - 7:14 am 1 Comment

I don’t know if I understand your question. But if you have a blog on blogger.com and would like to have a domain name (yourblog.com) you do not need a new host to do this (Blogger is the host).

Now you can’t get a real .com for free, but if you can spare just $10 go to http://www.domaincityhosting.com or if you can’t spare $10 you can get a fake domain at http://www.co.cc and get yourblog.co.cc for free. Either way you just point the url to your blog.

I’m sorry if that doesn’t answer your question but Blogger hosts blogs for free already.

Are image hosting sites and ftp sites the same thing?

July 14, 2010 - 7:04 am 2 Comments

Before I put that in my paper and look completely stupid can someone tell me?

Nope
File Transfer Protocol is basically uploaded shared files or folders for the public.

Image hosting sites such as photobucket and tiny pic
are mostly for personal use and you can only upload Images/pictures
Sites like Photobucket allow you too uplopad videos as well.

Free web hosting with ftp?

July 14, 2010 - 6:55 am 5 Comments

I am planning to buy a domain, but I need hosting for free. I have 13$, so 10$ is for domain and the 3$ I have for hosting… I need hosting for 1year which has FTP, please give me url! thanks alot

Virtually every web host has ftp support, otherwise you could not upload your site.

As to Free hosting, there are many companies that offer it, as long as you are aware that free = limited. You wont get as many resources or as much help as you would for paid hosting. $3 wont get you far in the paid hosting space so I suppose you are forced to use free hosting.

A good resource for free hosting would be http://hostingscorecard.com/FreeS-1.html which rates free hosting providers based on their online reputation.
