If I’m going to have a site with large file downloads-should I get shared, VPS, reseller, or dedicated hosting?

July 13, 2010 - 3:52 am 3 Comments

Basically, I’ll be having a site that will have around 5-6 large file video downloads….would shared hosting work for this?

Shared hosting is fine. Get the cheapest thing you can find because downloading files takes no resources off the web server. Dedicated is where no other websites, except yours, is on the server. If you have complicated php or .asp web pages that use a lot of resources to process all the information, then the dedicated would be idea in this situation.

You’ll want to research and see how much bandwidth (how many mb’s you’re allowed to send over the internet) and how much is costs if you go over.

I want to start a web hosting company of my own not dedicated servers but my own server?

July 13, 2010 - 3:52 am 7 Comments

I want to purchase a server of my own and start a web hosting company. Somehow I got the configuration of the server. The problem now is how can I register the domain name. what is cpanel is that enough for registering domain name and hosting websites? Is there anyother procdure that i should follow?

Hello,

Cpanel is just a Panel through which you can auto generate hosting pack on your server.

For booking / registering domains you need to approach some ICANN accredited registrar.

Search in google for "ICANN Accredited Registrar in India" you will get few listed.

Regards,

Vinay

can I use a file hosting site as a dedicated server?

July 13, 2010 - 3:49 am 3 Comments

I want to add a chat room to my site.
Can I use the site that hosts my files as the server? It allows unlimited bandwidth and hotlinking.

If the application is a 3rd party one, then it should be fine. To have a full fledged application, you will also need the permission to host the application files. What you probably need is an application hosting provider.

In dedicated hosting, how is CPU performance measured?

July 13, 2010 - 3:49 am 1 Comment

What do they mean with dual processors and quad core? If we talk about a dual core 2.4GHz, will it mean it runs at 4.8GHz? Whats the difference?

Please give any information you have about cpu’s as well…

It’s very important for webmasters. The speed of your server is dependent on this parameter. Generally 2GHz is an acceptable amount for handeling websites. To get further info about Dedicated hosting you go to: http://www.goldpuma.com, and refer to their Dedicated Server section.

What is the cheapest dedicated Linux server hosting package available in Chicago? I’m looking for something similar to fastservers.net, but cheaper.
The data center and servers MUST be physically located in Chicago for my purposes.
Thanks
Thanks, but cihost.com is pretty expensive too, even worse than fastservers.net.

check cihost.com , they have Chicago datacenter
