Using Air Conditioning
Getting older, no matter how much we try to fight it, means having to deal with new responsibilities and new circumstances. Many of these new findings have to do with paying for things. For example, living on one's own means buying one's food, fixing things that break, paying rent, paying bills, and the costs add up. When we are much younger and not paying these responsibilities, we are only over hearing what are parents are doing to cut costs, and not actually understanding what is going on. In fact, we are most likely outside for the entire summer, soaking up heat and coming back inside the house to learn that no one is going to turn the air conditioning on to cool only you off, thus leaving you to fend for yourself with popsicles or cold showers. However, parents are not doing this to be mean, or to even be stingy. They understand that by keeping the air conditioning off, they can save more money up to put into other parts of life, such as school supplies, such as vacations, and maybe even tuition. For that reason, being a little warm now and again can really pay off. In fact, once you grow up and are paying for the responsibilities, you quickly learn how much of an impact thoughtful savings can have on your life. Whether it is in terms of your first car or your first apartment, turning off the air conditioning means putting in less gas, or having more money to go out with friends. These are perks that are too hard to pass up, and so we should talk about ways to cut back on costs.
First off, it is likely that before you go turning on your electric fan, you probably are opting for the refreshing use of an air conditioning unit, no?
Did you know that using an electric fan will cost more or less the same fare of using a regular lamp? By putting a fan beside an air conditioner you can circulate more cool air at once.
By circulating more cool air, you might not have to run your air conditioner for as long, or for a lower temperature.
Additionally, you can often cut costs by buying an air conditioner that regulates to your liking.
By keeping an air conditioner that you control ahead of time, you can save money by fluctuating temperatures, or by keeping it off when you are not home, or do not need it.
Of course, you may have to invest a little more for a unit that will allow for this sort of regulation, but eventually it pays off.
So there you have it, your first few steps on how to cut air conditioning costs in your home. They may not be dramatic cost savers, but just by sticking to them, you give yourself the opportunity to save a good amount of money over time, which will allow you more money to go out with. It may even bring you a little more respect for your parents as well.

How to heat my family room in my new pole barn?
I am building a 64 x 40 pole barn. A 28x40 section will be a family room. I plan on using R-19 insulation in the walls & R-30 in the ceiling. It will be drywalled throughout. The concrete floor will not have any floor covering on it, just concrete. I am trying to fiqure out the best way to heat & cool the family room. I am currently looking at 30000 btu ductless mini splits, radiant floor heat & forced air furnace with central air. I would really like to use the ductless mini split but I dont want the floor to take all my heat. Does anyone have any ideas or experiences to share?
Thanks for your help!
